The Potential Benefits of Genetic Engineering Research (Essay Sample) Content: The Potential Benefits of Genetic EngineeringStudent Name:Course CodeInstitution:The Potential Benefits of Genetic Engineering According to Reiss Straughan, (2001), Genetic engineering is a procedure involving altering DNA pieces of an organism to produce a preferred outcome. When organisms are altered, the results are what are commonly referred to as Genetically Modified Organisms (GMOs.) Cole-Turner, (1993) adds that Genetic Engineering is solely aimed at altering the characteristic of original organism by introducing desired characteristic sourced from a different organism. Cole-Turner, (1993) acknowledges that Genetic Engineering has more benefits which allow high productivity within a very limited span of time. Genetic Engineering has also allowed creation of crops that are resistant to diseases and pest. Farmers that do large scale farming can now rely on Genetically Engineered seeds to increase their yields. Regions that have had poor productivity now benefit s from Genetically Modified Crops that suits their terrain. Genetic Engineering has allowed farmers from drought prone areas to grow crops same case to areas with salty soils (Reiss Straughan, 2001). Reiss Straughan, (2001), argues that the agricultural sector in general has benefited from Genetic Engineering. The cost o producing pesticides and other chemicals have been reduced due to invention of Genetically Modified crops. Kempken Jung, (N.D) admitted that genetically modified Crop consumes little resources hence more farmers have considered faming as a full time job. The environment is a...
